Multidisciplinary artist based in Ireland

Eoin studied fine art, yet found his artistic locus was closer to the city walls of abandoned buildings. “A big click for me was painting at scale.” says Eoin.

“The ephemeral nature of graffiti and street art has leant me for years to document the murals that I have painted around the world through photography.” Eoin

Nearing the end of 2020, Eoin put on a VR headset with Gravity Sketch for the very first time and it was a revelation. “Within 2 minutes I was walking around an object I had imagined for 10 years.” says Eoin. A friend of his had been making moves in NFTs and while Eoin had heard of them, he was yet to see the connection to his art practice. That changed when he came up with the idea of archiving his graffiti street art using 3D scans.

“I was taking scans of walls and minted them on KnownOrigin. They are the first scans of murals ever minted. Long after these walls are gone they will exist in a digital form.”

It is stunning to realise that until now, there has been no real way to capture graffiti art in a way that could replicate the experience in a large 3D environment for an audience to experience. Street art was captured in 2D forms that somewhat flattened its impact. Now this is changing. “You can geolocate sculptures to where they were created too.”

In April 2021, Eoin gave his iconic intertwined circular vines a new life on the blockchain with Confined – Self Portrait 01. “This series of works has been the sum of the past 10 years of development through many creative genres.” says Eoin. The in real life location in a disused nuns convent becomes the background for the 3D sculpture, imbuing its own meaning.

Each sculpture floats in its surroundings as if it has moved in once its previous human inhabitants moved out. Whether the sculpture is demonic or angelic is for the viewer to decide.

“The form is who I am.” Eoin

In om Art Show Four the sculpture is found in a brighter landscape in the artwork titled Moments of Introspection #16. “The intention of the sculpture is to show different phrases of introspection. The photo was taken in California in 2010.”

Moments of Introspection #16 by Eoin. Edition of 20.

‘Introspection is the examination of one’s own conscious thoughts and emotions. In psychology, the process of introspection relies on the observation of one’s mental state, while in a spiritual context it may refer to the examination of one’s soul. Introspection is closely related to human self-reflection and self-discovery and is contrasted with external observation.’ This series of works is a visual representation of some of these states of mind and self-discoveries using photographs shot at times of deep reflection.

On May 18th 2022, Eoin’s work was accepted into the hallowed digital halls of SuperRare so expect to see more of his sculptures appear as the open metaverse is built out in 2022/3.
