The Artist: Gloomtube

245 minted works on Tezos and counting in the Gloomtube arc of redemption. The ironic smiley faced leader of gloom began on June 22nd 2021 with the release of ‘Brutalized Police Car.’ The rebellious spirit has continued through the release of the collection titled ‘Gloomerican Dreams’ with 489 co-conspirators participating in the on-chain riot broadcast on Gloomtube. Generous with his art distribution, look out for the 1/1 deals that entitle the holder to happy yellow faced editions airdropped.

The Collection: Gloomerican Dreams

Action figures, bank heists, a mafia burial, business deals and online hacks all feature in the Gloomerican Dream. Symbolism of 20th Century capitalism often feature, such as McDonalds, Dupont, Target and Dollar Store scenes as logos. Their profitable landscapes get rewired through Gloomtube jolting the viewer to the carparked vacancy of opportunity paved over by the previous generation. In his work, Gloomtube expresses the breach of the generational compact with a broad, sunny faced smile.

A Specific Artwork: A Bunch of People Falling Down the Stairs

The underpass or stairs into the subway set the scene for this mass takedown of working class smileys. A metaphor for those left behind as the modern world continues on in the background. The smiley in the bottom right has already made peace with this predicament, in a kind of relaxed head holding pose. Smiley on the bottom left has come to rest, holding on with one hand. The remaining three continue to fall at pace, two wearing ties and one a lumberjack Swandri long sleeved shirt. The felt helplessness is palpable.

A Specific Artwork: DAIR Program Card

The blockchain allows for incredible experimentation with business models for artists, and ‘DAIR Program Card’ is an example of a peer to peer residency grant, all on-chain. In English, this means, you can buy the DAIR Program Card and fund Gloomtube to go on an art rampage for a year for 9,500 tez and reap a dumpster load of post Americana art for your up only belief.

DAIR Program Card

"This card is equal to one year of rent and will allow me to go all in for a year, full-time creative endeavors. I've been at it nonstop since June of 2021 (really, my whole life), and as long as there is a community trying to empower more digital artists, I'll be around."
